💻Get Your Discord Ready
If you're new to setting up discord servers, we'll help you with the basics of setting up a landing channel and roles
In this example, we are setting up a new discord server with a landing channel that will require any new user will have to verify their key holdings to access the rest of the server however similar setups can be applied to an existing server where you may only want to restrict certain channels to key holders.
Step 1 - Setup Roles
If you already have a role you want to assign to verified users you can skip ahead.
Right click on your server name in the top left corner and click on
Server Settings
Navigate to
Roles
Click
Create Role
Setup a name
Go to the
Permissions
tab and clear all permissions. Please take your time and scroll through and pick what permissions you want verified users to have. Since this will vary from server to server we cannot give guidance other than avoiding giving administrator access. Before saving, click on the
@everyone
role, go to permissions and clear all permissions. This will restrict anyone who joins the server from accessing channels.Click
Save Changes
to save all your permissions
Step 2 - Create Landing Channel
Start by creating a new discord channel or simply use an existing one. It can make sense to use your Rules
channel or similar for your landing channel. Keep in mind that this will be the first and only thing new joiners will see.
Right click on your channel and go to
Edit Channel
Now go to the
Permissions
tabSelect Advanced Permissions
You will only need 2 permissions. Select the green check on the following
View Channel
Read Message History
Now you have a landing channel that is readable by everyone joining server while still protecting the rest of your server with the the role you created. Optionally you can setup your invite link only give people temporary membership to your server and if they do not verify using the bot then they will automatically be pruned. You can learn more about invite links here.
In the next page you will be adding the fren.tools discord bot.
